Stoney Garden

Located on Pollock Street just beyond the Carraway Garden, the Stoney Garden is surrounded by a white picket fence. The garden was constructed in the late 1990s with funding provided by the family of Mary Kistler Stoney, a member of the original Tryon Palace Commission.

It features old-fashioned perennials and antique roses of varieties listed in Lavinia Cole Roberts garden inventory from her 19th century New Bern garden. The hollies surrounding the garden were coppiced, or cut back to the ground, in 2020 to allow for more sunlight to better grow diverse types of perennials.
