William L. Wainwright Activity Center
The William L. Wainwright Activity Center within the North Carolina History Center was named by the Tryon Palace Commission in 2016, to honor the late North Carolina Representative William L. Wainwright.
Wainwright served as the representative for the 12th District of the North Carolina General Assembly from 1991-2012, and was always there for his community. His influence was crucial in securing both the public and private support necessary for the completion of the North Carolina History Center in 2010.
Ordained in the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Zion Church in 1976, Wainwright served as pastor of the Piney Grove AME Zion Church from 1985-1993, and later as pastor of Morris Chapel AME Zion. He was appointed Presiding Elder of the New Bern District Conference of the AME Zion Church in 1993.
The William L. Wainwright Activity Center offers a great space for small groups and clubs to meet or get together for craft activities.
