Special Projects

Four volunteers in the Conservation Lab spent the last couple of years working to reproduce ten back stools based on a collection of six antique back stools in the Tryon Palace Collection. These ten back stools will be used for interactive interpretation in the Palace.  From just pieces of wood, a combination of modern machinery, traditional tools, and skills, the volunteers shaped the pieces and assembled them into chairs. Currently the ten chairs are undergoing staining and finishing. Upholstery in leather or damask will be the next step in the process.
