Visitors can discover the school days of the 18th and 19th centuries during Tryon Palace’s Lunch and Learn lecture set for Friday, Sept. 16, at noon inside the North Carolina History Center.
New Bern was home to the first school in North Carolina with a government charter, which became the New Bern Academy at 508 New Street in downtown New Bern. During Lunch and Learn at the North Carolina History Center, visitors will learn the history of the New Bern Academy Museum and what education was like in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Tickets for each event are $6 per person and free for Tryon Palace Foundation members. Each Lunch and Learn will begin at noon and guests will meet in Mattocks Hall inside the North Carolina History Center. Visitors must bring their own lunch, no food or refreshments provided.
