December 14 & 21, 2024
4:30 – 9:30 p.m.
Candlelight is Tryon Palace’s famed holiday event showcasing the beautifully decorated Governor’s Mansion illuminated by the magical glow of candlelight. As you travel from one decorated room to another within the Palace, fabulously costumed interpreters present an engaging story that relates to back to the Palace’s colonial history.
Your Candlelight ticket includes tours of the decorated Governor’s Palace, Stanly House, Dixon House, and Commission House, as well as festive activities and entertainment on the Palace grounds, and just outside the Palace front gates. Gates open to all ticket holders at 4:30 p.m., so come early to enjoy all the festivities before you tour the Palace. Your Palace tour time is indicated on the ticket – but plan time before, or after, to enjoy all of what Candlelight has to offer. Food will be available to purchase from several food trucks located outside the Palace gates, or within the Palace gates, at Mistletoe Corner where you can indulge in delicious sweets, snacks and beverages. Behind the Commission House, where Santa resides, grab a warmed cider and a ginger snap, compliments of Mr. Claus! For adult libations, plan a stop to the King’s Arms Tavern. At the close of this magical evening (around 9:30 p.m.), enjoy a spectacular show of black powder fireworks! Candlelight is a holiday tradition that you will not want to miss!
Tickets for Candlelight will go on sale in August. Buy them early, as the event tends to sell-out.
Candlelight is a rain or shine event, but fireworks may be cancelled during extreme weather conditions. Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. To ensure a more historically accurate experience and so all guests can enjoy their experience, we request no photography or videography within the historic buildings. Tripods, lights, and drones are not allowed on Tryon Palace grounds at any time.
