Educational Programs

At Tryon Palace, we believe that learning about history should be fun for all ages. Our group tours— for school field trips and tours for adults—are always evolving to include new experiences and ways of interacting with colonial America. Our education staff is also focused on improving special programs and events that range from the Civil War and colonial Christmases past, to participatory dance and music workshops focused on the African American tradition of Jonkonnu.

Some of our most popular education resources available at Tryon Palace include:

Group Tours: Designed to accommodate all ages. Learn more about tours for school groups and adult groups.

The Living History Classroom: A publication designed specifically for elementary and middle school history teachers. Read the latest edition.

Christmas Candlelight Celebration: Tryon Palace’s most popular annual event brings the holidays to life with colonial-inspired decorations, period costumes, candlelight tours, and black powder fireworks on the South Lawn

Events Calendar: There’s something new happening at Tryon Palace nearly every month. Check our events calendar often or sign up for our enewsletter for information on the latest events.
