18th Century Time Travelers’ Tour
Outlander in the Palace Tour
Join historic interpreters and step into Tryon Palace to learn the facts versus fiction of Diana Gabaldon’s award-winning Outlander series. The tour explores the lives of the fictional Fraser family, their friends, and their interactions with true historic figures of the Colony of North Carolina through the tumultuous period of the American Revolution. This tour covers books 4 – 8 and the Starz Outlander production seasons 4 – 7. Tour includes access to the 18th century Stable Office, militia encampment, and the Palace Gardens.
Community Class Series: The Indian War that Reshaped Eastern North Carolina
The cause, the war, and the legacy of the Tuscarora War changed the lives of not only Tuscarora people, but Indigenous peoples across eastern North Carolina. One of the most notable events in North Carolina history, Nancy Strickland Chavis and special guests, will explore the actors and events that ultimately forced Tuscarora and other Indigenous peoples from their homelands and altered their lives forever. The devastating experience was the final conflict that opened North Carolina to successful colonial settlement.
Palace Holiday Décor Tour
Join us on a tour of the Governor’s Palace and focus on the decorations for the upcoming “Candlelight Christmas Celebration.” Hadley Cheris, Tryon Palace Director of Facilities and Gardens, and Lead Holiday Decorator, will lead a tour of the first floor and cellar of the Governor’s Palace, describing the special items used in the decorations, design tips, and the pieces’ themes for this year’s holiday decor. Space is limited on each tour and flash photography is prohibited. Tours may involve walking and climbing stairs. Tickets do not include additional tours but do include access to the Tryon Palace Gardens. Tour Dates: November 25, 27 & December 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18 2024 | 10 – 11 a.m.
Traditions of Christmas Past Tour
Join us on a tour of Stanly, Dixon and Commission Houses focused on the decorations and traditions of Christmas past. Hadley Cheris, Tryon Palace Director of Facilities and Gardens, and Lead Holiday Decorator, will lead a tour of the first floor of the Stanly, Dixon and Commission Houses, describing holiday traditions in the last 300 years and the special items used in the decorations. Space is limited on each tour and flash photography is prohibited. Tours may involve walking and climbing stairs. Tickets do not include additional interior tours but do include access to the Tryon Palace Gardens. Tickets must be purchased before 10:30 AM on day of tour. Ticketholders, please meet at the Waystation at 10:30 AM for the beginning of the tour. Tour Dates: Tuesdays: December 3, 10, 17, 2024 | 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. Fridays: December 6, 13, 20, 2024 | 10 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Candlelight 2024
Candlelight is Tryon Palace’s famed holiday event showcasing the beautifully decorated Governor’s Mansion illuminated by the magical glow of candlelight. As you travel from one decorated room to another within the Palace, fabulously costumed interpreters present an engaging story that relates to back to the Palace’s colonial history.
