Step into Claire Fraser’s literal literary footsteps as you tour Tryon Palace and along the way encounter historic interpreters who will reveal the facts-versus-fiction of Revolutionary events.

Walk in the literary footsteps of Colonel James Fraser, his wife Claire, and their family as they journey through the events leading to Revolution. Are we to stand for the King, or is it time to risk everything in the pursuit of Liberty?

Join former slave, writer, orator and abolitionist, Frederick Douglass, in an hour-long conversation about how he and others wrote the blueprints for most – if not all modern black institutions of the 20th and 21st century. Bring your questions and hear Frederick Douglass explain in his own words how he and other freedom fighters laid the structural foundation for the social, economic and political success in today’s African American community.  FREE to attend.

Join Tryon Palace at the annual reenactment of the Stanly-Spaight Duel, an interpretation of an infamous moment in New Bern’s early history at 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, at the New Bern Academy.

Garden Passes are FREE during MumFest weekend, Friday through Sunday, in historic downtown New Bern. Hundreds of mums and a variety of fall blooming plants will be on display throughout the 21 acres of gardens of Tryon Palace during Garden Lovers’ Weekend.
