Palace Scholars

North Carolina’s Title I schools often face a cost barrier between their classrooms and multidisciplinary programs that enrich the traditional curriculum. The Palace Scholars Award Program was established in 2019 to offset the associated costs of a field trip including admission, substitute teacher fees, and transportation; making a visit to Tryon Palace and the North Carolina History Center more accessible.

Palace tours and costumed interpretation engage elementary through high school students with colonial history in a personal way. Students build their cultural and historical understanding of North Carolina’s heritage as they explore the site of the state’s first capitol.

Since the Palace Scholars Award Program’s creation, over 2,155 students, educators, and guardians from 19 Title I schools located in 14 different counties have benefitted from field trips funded by our generous donors!
