Tryon Palace’s USCT Regiment to Participate in African American Civil War Museum’s 20th Anniversary Celebration

NEW BERN, N.C. – July 11, 2018

Historic Interpreters with Tryon Palace’s 35th United States Colored Troops Regiment will travel to Washington D.C. to participate in the African American Civil War Museum’s 20th Anniversary Celebration, July 19 – 21.

“Tryon Palace and the members of the 35th USCT Regiment are proud to participate in this historic event, and grateful for the opportunity to share the legacy of the Civil War’s African American troops with the nation,” said Sharon Bryant, African American Heritage Coordinator, Tryon Palace.

Representing New Bern’s Civil War USCT unit, the 35th Regiment will participate in living history days at the museum on Thursday, July 19 and Friday, July 20. They will give historic demonstrations of military life for African American troops who served in the Union Army during the Civil War. On Saturday, they will participate in a parade walk along the George Washington Civil War Trail from Howard University to the African American Civil War Museum, where they will rally at the closing reception at the museum’s 20th Anniversary gala.
