Tryon Palace Honors William L. Wainwright with Activity Center

Tryon Palace and the Tryon Palace Commission will honor the late North Carolina Representative William L. Wainwright with a naming ceremony for the William L. Wainwright Activity Center at the North Carolina History Center Thursday, April 21.

At its 2015 meeting, the Tryon Palace Commission voted to name the North Carolina History Center Activity Room after Wainwright. Wainwright served as the representative for the 12th District of the North Carolina General Assembly from 1991-2012, and his influence was crucial in securing both the public and private support necessary for the completion of the North Carolina History Center in 2010.

Ordained in the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Zion Church in 1976, Wainwright served as pastor of the Piney Grove AME Zion Church from 1985-1993, and later as pastor of Morris Chapel AME Zion. He was appointed Presiding Elder of the New Bern District Conference of the AME Zion Church in 1993.

The naming ceremony will commence with a cocktail hour from 6-7 p.m., and dinner and program from 7-9 p.m. Tickets are $60 per person and include a catered multi-course dinner.
