NEW BERN, NC – Sept. 16, 2017
Lanterns on the Lawn: A Family Campout returns to Tryon Palace, Sept. 16-17. This family-oriented camping event will be held on the Tryon Palace South Lawn as a fundraising event for the Tryon Palace Foundation.
At Lanterns on the Lawn, campers will spend the night on the Tryon Palace South Lawn with fun activities and free entertainment. Events taking place during Lanterns on the Lawn include:
- Dinner buffet of hamburgers, hot dogs and s’mores
- Historical interpreters, crafts, bouncy houses and backyard games
- Campfire sing-a-longs, story time and a glow-walk through the gardens
- Sunrise yoga session overlooking the Trent River
- Breakfast buffet of donuts, fruit, juice and coffee
“This event is quickly becoming a family favorite for not only New Bern, but also for families from all over North Carolina,” said Erin Langley, Tryon Palace Development Manager. “This will be our third ‘Lanterns on the Lawn’ and each time it gets better and better. Not everyone can say that they have spent the night ‘at the Palace’.”
Campers can reserve 15-foot square plots on the South Lawn for a campsite. Setup begins 2-6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Tryon Palace Gardens and Garden Shop will remain open until dusk to allow campers to walk through the gardens and purchase items from the store.
Saturday evening activities will continue with crafts, lawn games, bouncy houses, a dinner buffet of hamburgers and hot dogs, making s’mores, a campfire sing-a-long and story time and a glow-walk through the Wilderness Garden.
On Sunday morning, campers will be provided breakfast followed by sunrise garden walks and a family yoga session. All camping equipment and other personal belongings must be removed by 10 a.m. Sunday.
Registration requires completion of the registration form at www.tryonpalace.org. Incomplete forms will not be processed. No one will be admitted unless properly registered. All registrations must be completed by Sept. 8.
The pricing for Lanterns on the Lawn: A Family Campout is as follows:
For groups of up to four guests, $50 (Tryon Palace Foundation Members)/$60 (Nonmembers).
For groups exceeding five guests, $90 (Tryon Palace Foundation Members)/$100 (Nonmembers).
Campsites are not to exceed eight guests. Children 5 and under are free and are not part of the campsite head counts.
