Behind-the-Scenes Tours to Feature Tryon Palace Costume Shop, Museums, Gardens

NEW BERN, NC – Oct. 3, 2017

Tryon Palace will host behind-the-scenes tours of the costume shop, museum technology and gardens throughout the month of October. All tours begin at 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, with a different tour offered each week. 

Tours in the Tryon Palace costume shop will be led by historic clothing interpreter, Leslie Lambrecht, Oct. 3 and 24. Lambrecht will lead a tour of the historic Jones House with a brief description of the house and then through the Tryon Palace costume shop. Historical clothing research, sewing techniques used in the past and current projects for upcoming events will be discussed.

On Oct. 10 and 31, the museum technology tours will be led by Rob Jones, Tryon Palace Multi-Media Coordinator. Jones will take visitors on a tour inside the technology that operates the interactive exhibits at the North Carolina History Center. Visitors will get an in-depth look at how Tryon Palace combines modern technology with meeting educational goals inside the Pepsi Family Center and Regional History Museum.

Tryon Palace Greenhouse and Gardens Manager, Hadley Cheris will lead a tour of the gardens Oct. 17. During the gardens tour, Cheris will guide guests through what is blooming in the fall gardens, including swamp sunflower, turk’s cap and lion’s ear and a multitude of asters, mums and sages throughout the grounds. The tour will be cancelled only in the event of thunder and lightning.

Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for youth. Space is limited on each tour. Costume shop and garden tours begin at the Waystation, located on the corner of George and Pollock streets. Museum technology tours begin at the North Carolina History Center.
