Behind-the-Scenes Tours to Feature Tryon Palace Costume Shop, Conservation Lab, Gardens

NEW BERN, NC – Feb. 6, 2018

Tryon Palace will host behind-the-scenes tours of the costume shop, Conservation Lab and Tryon Palace gardens throughout the month of February. All tours begin at 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, with a different tour offered each week. 

Tours of the Tryon Palace costume shop will be led by historic clothing interpreter, Leslie Lambrecht on Feb. 6 and 20. Lambrecht will lead a tour of the historic Jones House with a brief description of the house and then through the Tryon Palace costume shop. Historical clothing research, sewing techniques used in the past and current projects for upcoming events will be discussed.

Tryon Palace Conservation Specialist Richard Baker will lead a tour of the Conservation Lab on Feb. 13. During the tour, Baker will discuss the conservation work completed on the artifacts on exhibit in the Governor’s Palace, North Carolina History Center and historic homes.

Tryon Palace Greenhouse and Gardens Manager, Hadley Cheris will lead a tour of the gardens Feb. 27. During the gardens tour, Cheris will guide guests through what is blooming in the gardens and throughout the grounds. The tour will be cancelled only in the event of thunder and lightning.

Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for youth. Space is limited on each tour and flash photography is prohibited. Tours may involve walking and climbing stairs.

Costume shop, Conservation Lab and garden  tours begin at the Waystation, located on the corner of George and Pollock streets.
