Celebrate the Season

From holiday-themed tours and candlelight celebrations, to concerts and childrens' programs, there's no better way to celebrate the holiday season than a visit to North Carolina's colonial capitol, located in historic New Bern. Which events will you choose? 


Lunch and Learn: Decorating Through the Ages at Tryon Palace | Friday, Nov 16, 2018 | Noon

Hadley Cheris, Tryon Palace Gardens and Greenhouse Manager, will lead a lecture on the decorations of the Governor's Palace and historic houses at Tryon Palace. The lecture will focus on the special items used in the decorations, the historical ties and the “Four Elements” theming of the Palace pieces. Click here for more details.

Tickets for each event are $6 per person and free for Tryon Palace Foundation members. No food or beverage is provided.


Holiday-Themed Tours | Beginning Nov. 23

Fri-Sat, 10am-3pm |  Sunday, Noon to 3pm

Take in the sights and smells of the Governor’s Palace and historic homes while they are decorated for the holiday season with different eras represented at each stop. 

$20 adults, $10 youth (grades 1-12), free for children 5 and under (ONE DAY PASS).  


The Muppet Christmas Carol | Nov. 24, 2018 | Noon

Join us for a showing of the children’s holiday favorite, “The Muppet Christmas Carol,” in the Cullman Performance Hall in the North Carolina History Center. Seating is limited. Click here for more details.

Elf | Nov. 24, 2018 | 3pm

The Holiday Kick-off at Tryon Palace continues with a showing of “Elf.” The movie will be shown in the Cullman Performance Hall in the North Carolina History Center. Seating is limited. Click here for more details.

Discovering Tryon Palace: Holiday Décor | Wednesdays - Nov. 28, Dec. 5, 12, 19, 2018 | 9:30am

Join us for a behind the scenes tour of the Palace Candlelight decorations. Gardens and Greenhouse Manager Hadley Cheris will lead a tour of the first floor of the Palace, describing the special items used in the decorations and the theming of the pieces. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the North Carolina History Center or Waystation.


Chamber Music by Candlelight | Friday, Nov 30, 2018 | 7pm

Brierwood Ensemble of Wilmington, NC will perform in the Governor's Palace Council Chamber, lit by candlelight. Reception following with light refreshments in Commission House. Click here for more details.

Masquerade: A Candlelight Christmas Celebration | Dec. 8 and 15, 2018

This famed North Carolina tradition returns to Tryon Palace in 2018 with beautiful, new decorations and heartwarming holiday vignettes illuminated by the magical glow of candlelight. Tours are held each Saturday night from 4:30-9:30pm. Click here details.


Toys for Tots Dropoff

Beginning Nov. 1 and running through Dec. 15, visitors can bring a new, unwrapped toy as a donation to Toys for Tots. Toys can be dropped off at the Waystation or North Carolina History Center. Visitors donating a toy will receive a 10% off coupon for the Tryon Palace Museum Store.
