Rev War Day: Here Comes the 250th!
July 13, 2024 – 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Due to the National Weather Service’s forecast of rain showers and thunderstorms for the day, the parade, cannon firing and all Rev War Day outdoor activities on the Tryon Palace Historic Site have been cancelled.
Join us at the NC History Center for other Rev War Day activities!
Rev War Day: Here Comes the 250th! – CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER -Join a parade of the NC Continental Line, Fife & Drum Corps, SAR, DAR and others onto the Palace grounds. Engage with soldiers at the military encampment and watch drillings, bullet making and cooking over a campfire. Hear musket and cannon firing. Lawn games, drilling and drum games for children.
Learn about the Harlowe Patriots, the Marquis de Lafayette, apothecary, spinning and weaving, and more at the NC History Center. A day for all to experience the coming of the American Revolution in the 1770s!
Mattocks Hall: 10am-3pm
- Handcrafts and skills – Spinning, Weaving, Knitting, Sewing activities with the Education staff and the DAR volunteers.
- Flag Displays
- Map making with Mason Jones.
- Learn about Apothecary and Medicinals. Displays and information. Chris Grimes and Charles Brett
- DNCR 250th table
- Military Encampment and historical interpreters in the Gateway Gallery
Rev War History Talks: 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., Cullman Hall
- 1:00 p.m. Frank McMahon, Black NC Soldiers in the American Revolution.
- 2:30 p.m. Hank Parfitt, Chair, Farewell Tour Bicentennial Planning Committee of Fayetteville NC: The importance of Lafayette in the Revolutionary War
10:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m.: Lafayette Traveling Exhibit in Mattocks Hall
Activities in the North Carolina History Center will continue until 3:00 pm. Rev War Day activities in the NC History Center are FREE to attend.
