North Carolina Symphony performance to introduce new Music Director

Join your North Carolina Symphony on the Tryon Palace South Lawn on Thursday, September 14. Bring a lawn chair and blanket and get ready to soak in the new era, and welcome new Music Director Carlos Miguel Prieto to the New Bern community. Hear John Williams’ Love Theme from Superman, Bernstein’s West Side Story, James P. Johnson’s The Charleston, The Bare Necessities from The Jungle Book, and more.
The concert is FREE to the public. Tryon Palace gates will open at 5:30 PM. There will be a security bag check at all gates. Please bring your chairs or blankets, no alcohol or smoking allowed on the grounds.
North Carolina Symphony Announcement (February 23, 2022) – Carlos Miguel Prieto is celebrated worldwide for his collaborative style, charismatic conducting, expressive interpretations, premiering and personally commissioning works by composers of the Americas, and his efforts to foster cultural exchange through music. Through the years, Prieto has led the NCS in a range of adventurous programs featuring works by Anna Clyne, Gabriela Ortiz, and many others. At the time that Prieto was recognized by Musical America as their 2019 Conductor of the Year, Yo-Yo Ma was quoted, saying, “Carlos Miguel is a conductor for our 21st century.”
