History of the Tuscarora Conference

The organizers of this conference and Tryon Palace, New Bern, N.C., have planned a three-day conference and festival to acknowledge the impact of the Tuscarora people on the colony and the state of North Carolina, and the development of the United States from 1722-2022. The conference will also acknowledge and celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Tuscarora joining the Iroquois Confederacy and becoming the Sixth Nation within this confederation.

The conference will include new information/research on Gov. Tryon’s relationship with Native Americans in North Carolina and in New York. An important part of this conference will be traditional Native American social activities to be held at the Tryon Palace North Carolina Regional History Center, Thursday from 5 – 8 PM, Friday from 8 AM – 8:30 PM, and Saturday from 8 AM – 5 PM.
