North Carolina History Center
Open to the public during regular business hours

Join us in celebrating the Semiquincentennial of the United States with our America 250 NC exhibit: Freedom and Identity: Symbols of a New Nation!

This exciting exhibit will focus on the symbols and styles that surfaced in furnishings and decorative arts that defined the early years of the United States. It will explore Neoclassical and Federal Styles, Champions of Liberty, symbolism, and more! See objects from the Tryon Palace museum collection—some on display for the first time!—and observe the aesthetics that adorned the houses and buildings of North Carolina and the United States during the earliest days of the nation.

Also, currently on display at the North Carolina History Center in the Orientation Theatre are special exhibits of an enameled portrait miniature of Governor Josiah Martin and a North Carolina currency note printed in New Bern in 1778 that proclaims “Behold! A new World”.

From August to October, visitors will also be able to see the Eyewitness Sketch of the North Carolina Brigade: Exhibit on display at the North Carolina History Center. This exciting piece of artwork is first sketch of North Carolina troops during wartime that is known to exist. It is also the second-known eyewitness artistic rendering of female camp followers during the American Revolution. This exhibit is on loan to Tryon Palace by the Museum of the American Revolution.

These exhibits are available to the public for FREE during regular business hours.
