Discover Tryon Palace: Life on the Lesser Stairs
Tryon Palace presents “Life on the Lesser Stairs,” a tour highlighting the lives of the men, women, and children, both enslaved and indentured, who worked behind the scenes and in full view to make this large and important household function.
The story of Tryon Palace is often about the seat of government, and the lives of the governors and their families. “Life on the Lesser Stairs” tours the first floors of the Palace, Stables, and Kitchen Office to shine a light on the individuals who also called the Palace home but whose lives are often overlooked.
Space is limited for this tour. This tour involves walking and climbing stairs. The ticket includes a Garden Pass, but not the standard Palace Tour, or a Gardens and Exhibits Pass.
Private tours of “Life on the Lesser Stairs” are available. For Private tours, call 252-639-3524.
Tour begins at the Palace Front Gates at 10:30 AM
