Join us for an evening with Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders. Secretary Sanders will briefly highlight her contributions to the economy, community, and workforce development in eastern North Carolina. A moderated discussion and Q&A will follow. The evening will conclude with a reception for the Secretary and attendees. This event is free and open to the public.

Secretary Sanders is a native North Carolinian from Belhaven. She was appointed by Governor Cooper to lead the NC Department of Commerce in 2021, after previously serving as Administration Secretary. Her bold and purposeful leadership aims to ensure North Carolina’s economy is one that works for all people of this state.

As the mother to twin daughters, Secretary Sanders is passionate about improving the status of women in our state. “Improving the status of women in North Carolina is not just a women’s issue – it is a family, poverty, and economic issue.”

Please join us in welcoming Secretary Sanders to the North Carolina History Center on March 27th, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Outlander in the Palace Tour

Join historic interpreters and step into Tryon Palace to learn the facts versus fiction of Diana Gabaldon’s award-winning Outlander series. The tour explores the lives of the fictional Fraser family, their friends, and their interactions with true historic figures of the Colony of North Carolina through the tumultuous period of the American Revolution. This tour covers books 4 – 8 and the Starz Outlander production seasons 4 – 7.  Tour includes access to the 18th century Stable Office, militia encampment, and the Palace Gardens.
