NEW BERN, NC – October 13, 2017
Tryon Palace gardens will be open for free during MumFest weekend, Friday through Sunday, Oct. 13-15 in historic downtown New Bern. Hundreds of mums and a variety of fall blooming plants will be on display throughout the 16 acres of gardens of Tryon Palace during Garden Lover’s Weekend.
Gardens will be free and open to the public Friday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 15, from noon to 6 p.m. Interior tours require the purchase of a ticket.
The Fall Heritage Plant Sale will also be held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13-14, on the Daves House Lawn just inside the Palace main gate. This annual plant sale offers a selection of plants grown locally and in the Palace’s nursery yard, as well as a wide variety of perennials, herbs and other fall favorites. There will also be honey from the Tryon Palace bees available to purchase. The Fall Heritage Plant Sale will be open Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13-14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Plant Sale is one of my favorite times of the year,” said Hadley Cheris, Tryon Palace Gardens and Greenhouse Manager. “Seeing all those plants makes me feel like a kid in a candy store! Fall is a great time to plant trees and shrubs, and we love helping find the perfect plant for our visitors’ gardens.”
The Tryon Palace Fife & Drum Corps will be performing in the Tryon Palace Courtyard on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.
Every year, the Tryon Palace Garden Lover’s Weekend and Fall Heritage Plant Sale coincides with MumFest, a weekend-long event sponsored by the City of New Bern and produced by Swiss Bear Downtown Development Corp. The combination of family fun, entertainment, attractions, exhibitors and savory foods in the beautifully restored setting of downtown New Bern and its waterfront, is enjoyed by more than 100,000 festival-goers every fall.
