The paper collection is comprised of artistic prints, currency, newspapers and more. The prints feature a wide range of topics including botanical and ornithological prints, portraits, historical scenes, landscapes, city views, maritime prints, and satirical observations on behavior. One of the great strengths of the collection are maps of the new world, especially the Carolinas, by premier English and Continental cartographers of the 17th and 18th centuries. The collection of paper currency contains a variety of colonial bills issued in North Carolina before 1800. Many of these were printed by New Bern printer James Davis. The currency collection also includes some examples of Confederate money. The paper collection also is comprised of prints and newspapers recording aspects of the Civil War especially in New Bern and North Carolina.
