NEW BERN --- The Fife and Drum Corps from Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens is
scheduled to perform in a parade honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Saturday,
January 19. The Corps will ‘step off’ when the parade begins at 11 a.m. The route takes
them down Broad Street to George Street, ending at the Senior Services Center at
Cypress and George Street, just down from the Police Department towards National
Avenue. The parade is expected to end around 12:30 pm. more

Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens. Dr. Martha Hodes will discuss her award
winning book, “The Sea Captain’s Wife: A True Story of Love, Race, and War in the
Nineteenth Century.” This lecture is free and the public is invited. Books will be
available for sale and a book signing will follow the lecture. more
