Festivals like the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Newport Jazz Festival, and the Montreux Jazz Festival are too far way. Instead, why not enjoy a waterfront concert in Governor Tryon’s backyard as the East Coast Jazz Revue presents its inaugural summer event, “Where Rivers Meet: Summer Jazz Festival on the South Lawn," on Saturday, Aug. 23.
Headlining this new outdoor festival will be Gregory Porter, an electrifying 2014 Grammy winner for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Also scheduled to appear are the 2012 Monterey Jazz Festival’s Emerging Artist Group, “Elevations,” and the sensational jazz pianist and composer Helen Sung.
Tickets are $28 for adults and free for youth ages 12-and-under (limit three per paying adult).
Tickets may be purchased at the N.C. History Center, Fuller's Music and online at www.whereriversmeet.net.
This concert is scheduled to take place rain or shine; refunds will only be offered by East Coast Jazz Revue in the event of cancellation.
The grounds at Tryon Palace will close for regular business on the day of the event at 4:30 p.m. (last Palace tour given at 3:30) and all three gates (main gate and side gates located on Eden and Metcalf streets) will reopen for concert ticketholders at 5. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the gates from 5-8 p.m.
Visitors are encouraged to enjoy this outdoor concert on the South Lawn by bringing their own chairs and blankets (chairs will not be available), but please leave pets and alcoholic beverages at home. Food and beverage vendors will be available, and the Tryon Palace Craft and Garden Shop (located behind the Stable Office) will be open during the event.
Musicians will host a free Youth Jazz Master Class the morning of the event for student-aged musicans. Early registration is encouraged and space is limited.
Tickets are available at the N.C. History Center, Fuller's Music, and online by clicking here.
