Tryon Palace’s impressive painting collection includes works by eighteenth-century portrait artists Thomas Gainsborough and  Charles Willson Peale. On display throughout the historic complex, these paintings encompass a full range of styles and subjects.

Portraits include those of reigning monarchs such as Queen Anne, King George I, King George III, and Queen Charlotte. Other paintings feature portraits of lesser known or unknown people, landscapes, maritime scenes, conversation pieces and still lifes.
