35th annual Candlelight Celebration

This famed North Carolina tradition returns to Tryon Palace in 2015 with beautiful, new decorations and heartwarming holiday vignettes illuminated by the magical glow of candlelight.

Saturday, Dec. 19, 4:30-9:30 p.m.

Travel back to 1773 at the Governor’s Palace, and experience the ball held for Princess Sophia Carolina Matilda, Marchioness of Waldegrave. Join in the hunt for the eloped Elizabeth Stanly in 1814 at the Stanly House, where Elizabeth is nowhere to be found. Venture across the street to 1835 at the Dixon House to hear the classic story, “A Visit from St. Nicholas." At the Commission House, a Christmas Eve from 1950 will come to life as Mr. and Mrs. Mohn spend the evening busily preparing for their children and grandchildren to visit the following day.

Enjoy the magic and wonder of circus acts, fire eating, sword swallowing, acrobatics, historical interpretations, and 18th-century magic tricks from The Pickled Brothers Circus, Signora Bella, Levram the Great, and Historical Interpretations, Inc. Then, end your enchanted evening with a display of black powder fireworks illuminating the night sky over Tryon Palace.
